ASG Remote Desktop 2018 and Azure DB

Hello,

I've trying te migrate from on premise SQL-db to Azure DB with ASG RemoteDesktop. So far database is in Azure, export from on prem to import in azure sql DB worked great (after updating ASG to 11.0.5924.0)

 Now i want to connect to the azure db with Azure Active Directory accounts. When i fill in my azure active directory account, it picks up "@domain.nl" as a SERVERname... what am i doing wrong ??

ASG-RD 2018 - Patch4 (Build 11.0.5988.1)

ASG-RD 2018 Patch4 (11.0.5988.1) is available! Also a native 64Bit edition is available (with some functional limitations).

To use this version you need a valid subscription until 05/01/2018

If you have already installed any ASG-RD 2018 version you need to close your application and then install the new version. You don't need to uninstall your old version.

Caution - Possible Migration of datasource necessary - for all versions before ASGRD 2017.

The following ReleaseNotes describes the fixed issues and new features.

Fixes
- PuTTY-Session-Administration: Refresh of registry session list will be done even if there are no registry values (empty list)
- PuTTY-Session-Administration: List of saved session in environment will be loaded automatically to prevent that saved sessions will be overwritten
- RDE import - Import of objects without selected parent object will import into the selected destination folder
- Extension Settings => Read only users can't modify anymore
- Layout and View-Properties - ReadOnly users can't change content anymore
- Delete folders in Favorites: If folders from Connections tree were added to the favorites and in settings no colored and no italic font was choosen - remove could delete also the original items - this should not happen anymore
- RDP-Sessions - Tiny mouse cursor issue (on Win10 RS2/RS3) is solved by calling new interface on Win10 RS4
- Disconnected RDP-Sessions when using "Retry button" - the reason for disconnecting the session will now be displayed above the Reconnect button

New features/enhancements
- New browser control added - Chromium web browser
- New Application-Setting:  Save layout and connection list on every connect/disconnect of a connection
- New Security Assignment: Allow to choose sync type in credentials sync (default: Only object names)
- Installer - new command line option /NoShortcut=1
- Support of 'Login from untrusted domains'
- Powershell-API - new CmdLet: RDBaseItemImportCsvCommand
- SSH / Putty - New settings: RemoteCommand and PseudoTerminal

The 64Bit-version of ASG-RD has the following limitations
- No ICA protocol is supported (Citrix do not plan to release a 64bit client software)
- No 'VMware=>Connect to Console' functionality - VMware is not releasing any new version of vSphere client and there is currently no 64bit client available

You can install the 64bit version side-by-side to 32bit ASG-RD and try it - but you should not use both applications at the same time to avoid data conflicts - especially when using file mode!

Authenticating from domain 'X' PC towards domain 'Y' Azure SQL

Hi, 

I have a small question that I was hoping you could assist with.

Here's the scenario as we see it:

We're considering creating an Azure SQL database on domain YYYY's Azure tenant, but on our local PC's are logged into domain XXXX.

We've tested with the following:
- Integrated Windows authentication (We did not expect this to work and it didn't)
- Reading over the Forums, we found that the suggestion is often to set up a Full Trust between the two domains, but that will NEVER be an option for us. 
- RunAs does not work either 

However, we are wondering if we can use Azure AD to authentication our users with?

Looking over some other tools, we've seen that it works with those. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Connection/Credentials import from Vision App Remote Desktop 2011 to ASG-RD 2018

The only visible option for import of connections into ASG-RD 2018 is from a file with extension .rde (or a .csv).
However the export format from Vision App Remote Desktop 2011 is .vre (or .vrb) or .csv. Any of these old formats, including the csv, is not working with ASG-RD 2018. Please advise how to import "old" 2011 type of connections and credentials (if possible) into the latest version of ASG-RD.

Offline Sync only sync connections

Hi, is it normal that the offline sync only syncs the connections?
Sometimes (not Always) only the connections tab is synced, and none of the other tabs.
 (see screenshot)
Is this a setting? or am I doing something wrong?

Keepass integration

Hello,
I have enabled Keepass 2.x integration extension, but I cant see any mention of keepass in ASG, cant browse any credentials from Keepass.

How is this supposed to work? I have Keepass started at windows login, protected by Windows account SID.

Adjustment to offline mode

Hi,
 
Just to start with, let me just say what a great product ASG Remote Desktop is, I have been using it for years and have been converting each business I work at to using it to save the admin team time and effort managing environment.
 
The offline mode features are something I often rely on particularly when travelling with my laptop, or just disconnecting from the corp network to test external functionality. It allows for connecting into parts of the admin environments while off the corporate network and where I do not need to use a VPN to connect to a number of resources (often useful when working on external resources and making adjustments while also running tests). Generally it is a great to use, but there is an annoyance of it being quite disruptive when first detecting it cannot connect to the SQL server where the common connection settings are saved. It is even more disruptive when the prompt indicating the connection to the SQL server has been lost and you cannot get to that window to acknowledge the notification.
 
I note that when the connection to the SQL server is no longer available, it often takes ASG Remote Desktop quite a bit of time to try and timeout the session to the server (about a minute at times), during that time ASGRD is unusable and often goes into a not responding state. It then prompts up a warning that the connection could not be established (the database is no longer available). Which is good to be informed of this and it gives the option to OK that (and drop into offline mode) or hit retry. An issue occurs as this message window takes up all focus of the application, and you cannot click into ASGRD until you action the window, which in itself would be fine but there have been times where that notification window becomes lost in the sea of open applications and that leaves ASG RD completely unusable. When that happens the only choice left to me is to kill the asgrd.exe program from the task manager. That unfortunately often leads to some sort of confusion for the program and it's cache as it leads to offline mode not being an option when starting the program (no prompt to continue in offline mode, no tickbox to connect the environment in offline mode) so it can cause problems getting back into offline mode and requires access to the SQL server where the central database resides to get back in.
 
Would it be possible to get some adjustments to the offline mode functionality to minimize the impact when dropping into offline mode? Such as:
 
- Can the notification window of the database connection being unavailable be spawned off on its own process and the normal ASGRD window automatically drop into offline mode? That would allow ASGRD to be selectable and usable even without acknowledging the window, but also allow for the notification window to be selectable from the taskbar (instead of being encapsulated as part of the all-encompassing ASGRD taskbar item). That would allow you to select it from the task bar to bring it into focus and be able to click OK or retry to acknowledge the window if it is not showing up on the screen for whatever reason.

-An option to adjust the timeout settings for the database to reduce the time to drop into offline mode.
 
- Can there be an option to work permanently in cached mode with regular background syncing to the central database? That would avoid disruptions due to timeouts and the issue with the prompt. I can imagine that would not be a simple approach but would allow for offline mode always being available (not just continuing after being in offline mode when gracefully closing ASGRD).

Struggling with auto wrap

So, for some reason my putty sessions aren't wrapping correctly anymore.  I can't tell if it has anything to do with adjusting the width of the Navigation pane, but I'm not getting all my display showing.  It's wrapping, but some data is still chopped off on the r-side.  

I checked in the putty app in the installation folder and in Terminal settings auto wrap is on.

Anyone know what's going on ?

Kontex-Menu weg

Hallo Zusammen,
seit dem letzten Windows-Updates funktionieren im Kontex-Menu die Eigenschaften nicht mehr bzw. werden nur noch einzeilig angezeigt:

Dort steht nur noch: Verbindung Eigenschaften - Verbindung
Der Rest (der bedienbare Teil) ist weg!

 
Auch neue Verbindungen können nicht mehr angelegt werden.

Ich hab bereits meinen Grafiktreiber upgedatet - leider ohne Erfolg.

Kann jmd. helfen?

Unable to obtain License file

Hi,

We have ordered last week a renewal for our ASG Remote Desktop. This was done by our software vendor (SoftwareOne).
Yesterday we received a confirmation, with a link to download ASG Remote Desktop, but whitout License file.
When I asked our software vendor, he redirected me to your support which redirected me to the ASG Online shop, where I'm not able to sign in (I think I don't have a login, tried to send a reset-PW mail to my mailaddress, but don't receive anything).
How can I obtain the license file? I can provide our Order Reference.

Feature Pipeline

It would be nice to see a list of features that have been requested, what the likelihood of that feature being implemented is (Possible, Not Happening, In Progress), and the status of the features that are in the pipeline (Future Implementation, In Development, None)?

It could be a sticky thread at the top of this list, so that new members could see what has already been requested, what is likely/unlikely, etc.

Refresh / Reload

So it seems the Reload button in Find might not work anymor or always.

I have ASGRD 2018 open - a collegue creates some new connections.
When I use Find I cant see then, pressing Reload doesnt change it.
The Navigation pane dont show them either - but hitting F5 in Navigation makes them appear - and then clicking Reload in Find also make them turn up in the search results.

Does any else see this?

RDP status not handled

Got a weird RDP error "the requested session access is denied" but it is only visible via MSTSC, when trying via ASGRD 2018 it just hangs in "Connecting..." forever.

So ASGRD don't seem to handle all RDP return codes.

Chromium Support

Hallo zusammen 

Ich habe versucht, eine neue Connection basierend auf dem HTTP/S Web Browser Chromium zu erstellen. Leider bleibt das Fenster leer. Es funktioniert sowohl für interne Sites nicht als auch nicht für externe, z.B. google.com.

Das folgende Log ist leer:
C:\Program Files (x86)\ASG-Remote Desktop 2018\debug.log

Im Event Log sind keine relevanten Fehler drin.

Im Hintergrund wird ein Subprozess gestartet, welcher auch offen bleibt, jedoch ist das Tab einfach leer:

SCCM 2012 Automated Silent Install ASG-RD 2018

Greetings,

I'm looking to install silently with adding the Licence key for all our users, I can install the software no problem at all using the /S switch and I have created the correct registry key to copy the entire licence key information into the registry my question is what value do I use within the registry to be able to copy the .xml contend into for the licence key?

The licence key location which I had to create is as follows: \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\ASG\RemoteDesktop2018\Licence

Unable to remove Favorites

I have 3 favorites (folders) added, but never use them, and because sometimes ASGRD expands Favorites and scrolls down instead of showing the actual connection folders at the top, I want to remove the favorites - but rightclicking and selecting Remove Favorite and selecting Yes to "Do you really want to hurt me" dialog popup doesnt delete the favorite.

Hitting F5 doesnt make them disappear, though it does annoyingly expand them (another for the list).

Does anyone else see this?

Tiny popups

This happens frequently when I open a popup, can be connection properties, adding a new connection etc.
The dialog is TINY (like cannot possible be smaller). I think some window dimensions gets *ucked up sometimes.

Possible it only happens once for every time I start ASGRD, I'm not sure.

Does anyone else see this?

vmware sync and the vmware console - credentials issue

Hello - we are having issues connecting to the VMware console on connections that have been synced from our VMware servers.  We would like to use separate accounts to sync the connections (a single "public" service account with VMware read only permissions configured under VMware - General) and to access the connection (our individual "private" accounts with management permissions configured under VMware - Access as personal values).  When configured this way, the sync is successful but when attempting to connect to the console, we get a blank black screen.  As far as I can tell, this is what the "VMware - Access" section is intended for... perhaps I am missing something?

VNC kann keine Verbindung aufbauen

Hallo zusammen,

seit dem Update auf die 2018er Version Patch 4 (alte Version war 2017) kann keine Verbindung zu Servern per VNC Viewer aufgebaut werden.

Auf den Servern läuft TightVNC Version 2.8.11 oder auch ätere Versionen.
Leider sowohl als auch keine Verbindung möglich.

Wenn ich die Konnektion zum Server aufbauen möchte, erscheint ganz kurz ein Fenster, das sofort wieder zuspringt.

Hat jemand eine Idee an was es liegen könnte?
